To the Mid-Valley Chapter

of the Association of Northwest Steelheaders!

The Mid-Valley Chapter is one of the earliest chapters within the Association of Northwest Steelheaders. Prior to 2010, we were called the Albany Chapter. We are a diverse group of dedicated anglers who value our natural resources and especially our fisheries. We are a very active chapter  with over 150 members, ranging from teenagers to 97 year-olds!  Among our membership you’ll find biologists, bankers, teachers, professors, engineers, fish culturists, doctors, contractors, guides and students. We have several active female members. It’s a great group of individuals that anyone can find some common interests in besides fishing!

We participate in several activities throughout the year including salmon and steelhead sorting and spawning at South Santiam Hatchery, a Cub Scout Lock-in casting booth, Free-Fishing Day kids fishing & learning activities, Scouts fishing days, fin-clipping activities, angler brood stock collection, our annual chapter barbecue, an annual chapter banquet, occasional chapter fish-alongs and of course ten monthly membership meetings with different speakers/programs.  Other activities can include bear bait preparation, habitat work, spawning surveys, outdoor schools, class room egg-to-fry, and other assistance to the Oregon Department of Fish & Wildlife. Many of our members are avid steelhead, salmon, trout, sturgeon and kokanee anglers with a wealth of knowledge of many rivers and lakes.  Several members regularly fish off-shore also.  They are happy to share their knowledge as well as learn from others.  The level of involvement in our chapter activities and operation is entirely up to each member.  We don’t push but we’d be glad to have you along on some of these important activities!
